It is easier for everyone to teach the collar in the game. When traveling with a puppy, you can quickly put a collar over his head and continue the game. If the puppy is distracted by a worn collar, try to distract him with a toy or other form of play.
It can be different: put a collar on the puppy and immediately give him a tidbit, after which you remove the collar without giving anything. After a second or two, put the collar on again and give the piece again. If the puppy is very stubborn, and the collar is very worried, then wear a collar every time before feeding and feed the puppy only when it is in the collar, as in a bib.
The collar should not be tightly tightened, but should not hang out. Checking the size is very simple. two fingers should easily pass between the collars and the neck of the dog.
Over time, and if you constantly take the puppy to the street wearing a collar and on a leash, dressing them will be a signal for him to walk and he will start treating them well, just with love.
Teaching to a leash is also worth it at home first, when the puppy no longer feels discomfort from the collar. Fasten the leash, and, pulling it slightly, bring the baby to him, showing him a treat. It happens that puppies get scared of such an incomprehensible restriction of freedom. they start to pull out, if you pull a leash, to hysterically whine. So, you are somewhat hurried and pulled the leash too hard or sharp. Reassure the baby and try again, pulling the leash smoother. but not trying to drag the puppy by force; the puppy itself should approach you.
Being accustomed to a collar and leash in an apartment, a puppy may behave differently on the street: get scared, lie down and not move, or even throw a tantrum. In any case, it is better not to jerk him, but to calm, iron, give a piece of food and once again try to make him obey by squeezing the leash. Usually, if the owner is not rude, such a puppy reaction quickly stops. But remember, on the street, not a dog is leading us, but you are a dog.
As long as the puppy is small, it is so easy to resist his desire to move "into the tension", that is, pulling the leash. Not to notice this is a sure way to teach a dog to walk this way, and then face the difficulties of dealing with an adult dog. In order to teach the dog to behave correctly, it will take time, and your attitude towards it is comparable to the behavior of the surgeon towards the patient. That is, you should be prepared to make your puppy unpleasant or slightly hurt in the name of his own well-being.
As soon as the puppy pulls the leash, or pulls you in the direction you do not need, or buries your nose where it is impossible. you make a sharp jerk with the leash. A jerk must be of such strength as to cause the submission of the dog, and no more. You do not have to “punish” a puppy, your task is to make him change his behavior. But if the puppy does not pay attention to the jerk, learning does not occur. If the jerk is very strong, causing the dog’s panic condition, it leads to a fear in the puppy of the leash and situation. Too bad.
Provided that if you constantly pull the puppy up while pulling the leash, the following will happen. the pulling of the leash itself will be perceived as a precursor of unpleasant events, avoiding which, the dog will follow the pace and direction of his and our movement.
If the dog has already grown up, is physically stronger than you and does not pay attention to your jerks with a leash, you can make not one jerk, but a series of three or four, or use a noose. Difficulty breathing caused by a noose, and even enhanced by your jerk, is very effective. But you need to remember that you need to act only with jerks, jerky and sharp, allowing the same dog to pull you on the stranglehold is impractical. in the absence of a jerk, the strangle stops at some point ceases to tighten and it turns out just a very tight collar moreover, at the same time, the dog’s pain threshold changes, which will negate even the reaction to the right jerk.
It is very useful to teach a dog that is on a leash itself, to solve problems associated with it, as advised by E. A. Meshcherskaya and N.N. Meshkova (tips for a dog breeder, 1992). They propose to use the team "go!" and "foot!". First, when the animal was on a leash, it went behind a tree, a bush, a large stone, a pillar and thereby created an obstacle to movement. In this case, give the command and pulling the leash, forcing the dog to go back. The “leg!” command means that the dog, when the leash has passed under her belly, should lift the relevant limbs and get out of the leash. In this case, the owner gives the command and at the beginning he raises his paws to the dog, and over time, having gained experience, the dog will switch to self-service.
All this can be worked out without anticipating commands, controlling the dog only by juggling the leash, over time, she will begin to perform the necessary actions, focusing on the direction of his pull.
Playing with a leash is pleasant to some, annoying to others, but always leads to deterioration of a cloth or leather leash and poses a threat to the dog’s teeth if it is a chain leash. The basis of this undesirable behavior is the game need, so you should not pull the leash. In this case, from the point of view of the dog, the owner is involved in the game, the need is satisfied and the behavior is fixed. Threats and strikes are also ineffective, because they do not satisfy the need for the game, and it is very pronounced in young dogs. Best of all, if the dog starts to pull the leash, pull it up, thereby stopping the game, and switch it. offer it a wand, a toy and play with the dog. It is even better to offer a toy when the dog has clung to the leash, and even better, then when it wants to do it, or occupying it with a toy beforehand, if you know such a sin for your dog.
Over time, the dog will understand that the toy is not a leash. Similarly, the owner eventually understands that the leash is not just a rope, but a very effective means of educating and controlling behavior.
