Manscaped The Lawn Mower 4.0 Review

In this Manscaped The Lawn Mower 4.0 Review we will put my most precious assets (my balls) to the test as this is a waterproof electric trimmer meant for trimming hair in your groin area. I hope to present an honest and detailed review of this product to better inform and educate before purchasing.

I am excited about reviewing and using this product as I have heard many advertisements for years about this product.

In full disclosure, I am not an affiliate of Manscaped. I purchased this product from Amazon in order to review it for my website. I place links on this page to Amazon in which I make a small commission on clicked purchased items. This is a small website and I would greatly appreciate any support if you find the information helpful. Thanks.

What Is Manscaped?

This company was founded in 2016 and centered around grooming hair below the waist. To put it bluntly, ball hair. They also offer a wide range of products from trimmers, nose hair trimmers, Single-blade razors, manicure sets, and skincare products.

What Is Included With Purchase?

1 – Manscaped The Lawn Mower 4.0 Trimmer

Specs On The Lawn Mower 4.0

The length of The Lawn Mower is 5 3/4″ inches long.

How Well Does It Work? Worth It?

Very excited to review this trimmer at first. As I have heard the advertisements on The Joe Rogan Experience for many years now and often wondered what all the hype has been about. I had often thought I would like to try it.

On the exterior, everything looks fantastic! For example the faster motor (7,000 RPM), the LED Light, Guide Combs, and overall presentation and appearance but in fact, it really boils down to performance.

Doesn’t it? This needs to trim hair and without cutting you up.

Yes, it cuts hair but…it also cuts the nut sack too. Ugh, and you can easily see it with the LED light installed.

As a nut shaver without any guide combs attached, I wouldn’t recommend it. I nicked myself way too many times and I could use a regular clipper to get the same experience and results. I often felt sharp pinching of the skin on my scrotum when using and in a few seconds, blood would appear. I gave up halfway through the ordeal that is how much it let me down. I don’t need a ton of cuts down there. Thanks, Manscape!

If you are using it for a ball shaver I would 100% use the guide combs. This will prevent the nicks and cuts when using just the trimmer to take care of the boys down there. You just will not get the hair down as close as you would without the guides.

Maybe This Happened Because I’m Inexperienced. Nope! Here’s Why…

Now, this isn’t my first rodeo on using a dedicated ball shaver as I own and reviewed two other ball shavers and none of those two trimmers actually cut me when I used them. So I know there are ball shavers that will not cut you even without a guide comb attached. Sorry, Manscape.

See My Tips FAQ section for the best ball shaver I own and would recommend.

I pride myself on having honest reviews on my site, and if it doesn’t perform up to the task I will let you know. This is marketed as a ball shaver with SkinSafe Technology and that implies it won’t cut you but it performs like its namesake (The Lawn Mower) leaving you bloody down there.

I wondered if this was only happening to me, nicking my ball sack that is. So, I went and looked at other reviews online, specifically Amazon. Click here, Manscaped Amazon Reviews to check out all the reviews on Amazon. What I found was I wasn’t alone. Many other reviews state the same fact as what I experienced. This gets me thinking maybe it is a quality control issue at the plant as I see 72% of the people give it a 5-star rating and on the transverse, it has a 7% 1-star rating. All I can really impart is my experience and it cut me.

How Does It Perform Else Where?

This works pretty well on the hair located elsewhere on the body. I used it on my face and neck regions and it performed well. Much better. It handled my thick overgrowth of neck hair with no problem.

Pros

  • Fast removal of unwanted hair.
  • Indicator lights let you know how much charge you have. There are a total of three lights, I believe the first light is 33% (bottom) and the second (middle) is 66% and the third (top) is 100%.
  • Came with a 66% charge, so I had two bars on the charging indicating lights. This is great as I hate when it comes dead upon arrival.
  • Comes with a single LED light that lights up when you turn it on. A super great feature for helping you see in the netherregions.
  • Guide combs fully lock into place when put on.
  • Waterproof design, so it can be used dry or in the shower.
  • 7,000 RPM motor! This is the fastest and most powerful motor I have seen for a ball trimmer/everything.
  • No cords to plug in the trimmer. This charges via electromagnetic induction from the docking station.
  • Very comfortable grip. It has a total of 8 sides that provide a secure and firm grip.
  • Comes very well presented and packaged.
  • Very quiet motor when running.
  • Good battery life as you will get up to 90 minutes on a fully charged unit.
  • The trimming head snaps off easily for cleaning and changing.
  • All replacement blades work all models of The Lawn Mower 2.0, 3.0 4.0 models.
  • The blades are ceramic which has more give and remains sharper for longer.

Cons

  • Unacceptable. I cut and nicked myself a lot and my nuts bleed. Yeah…blood all over my nut sack. Uhmm, very disappointing. Going to have to use the guide combs to keep from nicking myself.
  • Manscaped recommends charging before you first use it. Damn it, I hate waiting. lol
  • Quite a large gap under the plastic trimmer head, this gap will quickly fill with hair. This lets hair into the inside of the trimmer head and could potentially create problems. Cleaning up after using this will help prevent this from happening.
  • Putting the trimming head back into place after taking it off is often rather perplexing the first couple of times.
  • Expensive.
  • The trimming head is rather narrow and measures only 1 1/4 inches wide.

The Ball Shaver That I Do Recommend.

I highly recommend the Meridian Trimmer.

10% off any purchase – use code SPRINGINYOURSTEP from May 31, 2023.

This has a wider trimming head and performs better. Also and more importantly it won’t cut you. This also has a ceramic blade that will stay sharper for longer. Hands down a better product in my opinion.

Tips On Using The Lawn Mower 4.0

How To Avoid Cutting Yourself Down There?

You can simply just attach one of the guide combs provided. This will totally alleviate all cuts but also will, unfortunately, leave more hair down there as well.

Any tool that you use should be cleaned after each use. This will help prolong the life of this device and keep it working properly for longer. Follow the cleaning directions provided with the purchase to help this work the best for the longest.

Do You Have To Charge It When It Arrives?

Yes, when you first get The Lawn Mower 4.0 you should first fully charge before using it, as recommended by Manscape. This helps ensure battery life and usage.

How Long Does The Battery Last?

When fully charged The Lawn Mower 4.0 will last up to 90 minutes. This will quite a few trimming sessions as 4.0 makes short work of most jobs.

How Long Does It Take To Fully Charge?

It will take roughly 5 hours from a completely drained battery.

Best Body Groomer. Top 10 Best Body Groomers in 2022

Yes, it is rated to be submerged underwater at a depth of one meter of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. So, you can easily use it in the shower.

Is The Trimming Blade Replaceable?

The Final Shave

Don’t believe the hype or marketing. This will cut you without using the guides attached. This let me down in this area. In other areas, it didn’t. Along with that, it is also one of the most expensive ball shavers on the market.

This seems to me to be a better general overall hair trimmer than a dedicated ball hair trimmer. It has some pretty neat features I haven’t seen in other products but I would recommend a pass if you are looking for a ball trimmer unless you are willing to use the guides provided. This will leave more hair exposed than without using the guides.

There are better ones available to purchase that don’t cut you. I will put a link below if you are still interested in purchasing the Manscape The Lawn Mower 4.0.

How to Choose the Best Mower, Trimmer and Edger for Your Yard

When choosing lawn tools, you want to get it right. The proper mower, trimmer and edger can make all the difference in the quality of the finished job and the amount of effort and enjoyment you experience. Understanding the basics helps match your needs to the tools that meet them. Narrowing down the field starts with the following considerations:

  • The size of the area you maintain
  • The type of terrain, whether flat or hilly
  • The number of trees, garden beds and other obstacles
  • The amount of time and energy you want to expend

With those four decision-swayers in mind, you can move on to making choices.

Managing Lawn Mower Options

Lawn mowers fall into two main categories: walk-behind and rider. As of 2013, the median lot size for a detached, single-home in the United States was about 1/4 acre1 — a size well suited to walk-behind models. For areas 1/2 acre and larger, rider mowers may be a better fit. However, the options don’t stop there.

Walk-Behind Mowers

From traditional push models to self-propelled types, all walk-behind mowers work well on even terrain. But hills and large lots are easier to navigate when mowers propel themselves.

Walk-behind types include the following types:

  • Reel mowers. These retro-style push mowers rely on man power, not electricity or gas. Blades rotate vertically with scissor-like action that delivers the highest quality cut 2. provided the operator walks fast. By design, reel mowers are narrow in width. That translates to more trips across the lawn, but it eliminates noise and emissions. Reel mowers suit small lawns and short grasses best.
  • Electric rotary mowers. Available in corded and cordless models, electric mowers power rotating horizontal blades that pack more power than reels. Electric types run quiet, with limited environmental impact, and suit shorter, well-maintained lawns. Outdoor outlets and cord length restrict the reach of corded models, while charge and recharge times limit cordless types.
  • Gas rotary mowers. Limited by gas tank size and refills, gas-powered rotary mowers deliver the most power, but also create noise and emissions. Extra power supports bigger decks that cut wider swaths of lawn, and handles uneven terrain and long, coarse grasses well.

Cutting decks, which cover and contain the blades that cut your grass, manage lawn clippings differently. Side-discharge decks blow clippings to the side, onto the lawn. Mulching decks cut clippings several times, leaving tiny pieces that add beneficial nutrients. 2 Rear-discharge bagging mowers collect clippings for easy disposal, but emptying bags adds time.

Self-propelled mowers offer drive options, similar to automobiles. Front-wheel-drive mowers maneuver easily, especially on level terrain. Rear-wheel-drive models provide added traction for weighty baggers. All-wheel drive manages rough, uneven terrain the best.

Other considerations include wheel size and ease in changing mowing height. Large rear wheels can improve maneuverability. Some cutting decks change height with the flick of a lever; others require adjustments to each wheel.

Riding Mowers

Large lawns and acreages suit the added engine power and speed of riding mowers with cutting widths up to and greater than 60 inches. The National Gardening Association advises an additional 10 inches of rider deck width may save up to 30 minutes mowing time per acre, 3 so match your mower to lot size and time requirements.

As with cars, transmissions vary. Manual-transmission riders work like a standard stick shift. Automatic transmissions offer variable speeds at low and high gears, and hydrostatic transmissions allow for smooth operation and speed without changing gears. As with walk-behind mowers, riders come with side, rear or mulching decks, but bigger differences lie in size, power and maneuverability in the following categories:

  • Lawn tractors. These traditional riders fit lots too large for walk-behind work, but small enough for narrower cutting widths.
  • Garden tractors. Increased size and power in these models enables wider cutting decks and added attachments, including heavy-duty tillers and snow blowers.
  • Zero-turn-radius (ZTR) mowers. “On-a-dime” turns and fast speeds on ZTRs make quick work of complex lawns, such as those with a number of trees or undulating bed lines.

Selecting the Right Trimmer

String trimmers pick up where mowers leave off, cutting long grass or weeds with one or more spinning plastic lines. They reach obstacles and areas not suited to mowing, and even serve as edgers when held, so strings spin vertically instead of horizontally. Trimmers come in various types:

  • Electric trimmers. Lightweight and manageable, electric trimmers trade power for ease. Cutting areas are smaller, and limitations for corded and cordless models Echo those of electric mowers.
  • Gas trimmers. These heavier, more powerful models offer large cutting radiuses and heavier strings. The tradeoff is user fatigue and more noise.
  • Wheeled trimmers. These mower-like, wheeled machines put cutting string heads out front, and simplify heavy grass and rough terrain.

Some gas-powered trimmers adapt to metal blades in lieu of plastic strings to manage thick weeds and brush — things electric types can’t handle. Heavy adaptable models require greater control and more support. Handle bars and shoulder straps or harnesses help reduce operator fatigue.

Selecting the Right Edger

Edgers provide the finishing touch that separates manicured lawns from mowed. While multi-tasking string trimmers fill the need for many homeowners, tools designed for the specific purpose provide more impact and precision.

Walk-behind, wheeled edgers establish crisp, new lines or trenches along walkways and curbs or garden beds. Equipment rental stores offer these specialized machines. For regular maintenance, consider smaller edgers in gas and electric models.

  • Stick edgers. These lightweight, handheld tools maintain existing edges well. They range from simple manual devices, such as long-handled sticks with a metal half-moon on the end, to lightweight, engine-powered models.
  • Multi-use edgers. Interchangeable heads allow these tools to shift between multiple tasks, from edging lawns to pruning trees.

Fitted with the right tools for a well-maintained lawn, you can get the quality results you desire and enjoy the task and the leisure time that follows. Pennington Seed is committed to producing premium grass seed products and helping you grow and enjoy the healthiest, lushest lawn possible.

Lawn Mower Vs Trimmer Mower: When To Use Each

By now you’ve probably seen commercials for trimmer mowers and they are absolutely useful tools. Can or should they replace your lawn mower, though? We took a deep dive into the design and uses of each to help you decide for this lawn mower vs trimmer mower comparison.

Lawn Mower Vs Trimmer Mower Design

On the surface, the comparison between a lawn mower and a trimmer mower is simple. A lawn mower cuts using a spinning blade and a trimmer mower uses a thick trimmer line.

There’s more to it than what each one cuts with, though. A lawn mower completely surrounds its blade with a deck while a trimmer mower only partially encloses its line.

Then there’s the drive system. Lawn mowers use four wheels, usually no more than 8 or 10 inches on the back and 6 inches or so on the front. Self-propelled drive systems can reduce the amount of effort you put into mowing. A trimmer mower uses just two wheels and they are oversized to roll well on terrain that doesn’t get as much attention as a typical lawn.

To adjust the cutting height of your lawn mower, you pivot the wheels so they either raise or lower the deck. On a trimmer mower, you change the location of your trimmer line up or down on the head.

back, shaver, lawn, mower, clipper

One design feature that makes a big difference in how these tools are used is engine placement. A lawn mower’s engine is a direct drive and sits immediately above the blade. A trimmer mower has an elongated front section that extends the center of the head well in front of the engine.

Of course, lawn mowers have ride-on options that take their design to a whole different level. Trimmer mowers don’t, per se, but they do have tow-behind models making your UTV or tractor a ride-on trimmer mower.

There are a couple of things they have in common, though. Both have both gas and battery-powered options available (though battery-powered lawn mowers are far more widespread). You can also find electric start options for models with gas engines.

Lawn Mower Vs Trimmer Mower Cutting Characteristics

How well each type of mower cuts varies as widely as what they cut with. A lawn mower’s blade slices through grass and creates clippings. The deck design creates airflow that lifts the clippings up where they can be cut multiple times before they discharge.

Many lawn mowers have a 3-in-1 design. They can discharge out the side (which is great when you miss a cut and your lawn gets too tall). You can bag to leave a clean lawn or you can mulch to return nutrients back to the soil. Lawn mowers also have the advantage of choosing between standard, high-lift, and mulching blades to match the way you mow. Plus, there are dethatching blades, making your lawn mower a bit more versatile.

Trimmer mowers attack grass with the tips and edges of the line cutting through. Because of the open design of its deck, most grass is only cut once before the line throws it aside with enthusiasm. This leaves you with much longer clippings.

While there are some line options, they don’t affect the cut quality in terms of evenness or efficiency the way lawn mower blades do. It primarily boils down to the thickness and durability of the line you want and pairing it with the type of grass you’re cutting.

When to Use a Lawn Mower

Use a lawn mower for cutting defined lawns and other areas that are maintained regularly. If you need to cut more than 8 to 10 inches off, you’re getting out of range of what a lawn mower is designed for.

Keep in mind a lawn mower’s ability to side discharge if you’re cutting overgrown grass. Once you have it under control, you can bag or mulch to get that even, cultivated look back to your lawn.

When to Use a Trimmer Mower

Trimmer mowers do their best work in reclaiming overgrown areas that are too tall for a lawn mower’s fully enclosed deck. The height of the grass isn’t the question—only the thickness of the stalks. Thanks to the open front section, a trimmer mower is great for trimming under fences and into areas that a lawn mower’s deck and engine placement can’t reach.

Philips All-in-One Trimmer 7000 Series

Trimmer mowers are better for areas of field rather than maintained lawns. The trade-off for their much greater cutting range is a rougher finished cut compared to what you can get from a lawn mower blade.

Lawn Mower Vs Trimmer Mower Price

While it may be a surprise, lawn mowers and trimmer mowers run in similar price ranges. You can find both in the 350 – 1000 range, though there are some lawn mowers that run on both the lower and higher sides of it.

One of the big differences is the availability of battery-powered options. You can find effective battery-powered lawn mowers running from basic homeowner all the way to commercial level with a lot of options and price points. Battery-powered trimmer mowers are much less common at this stage.

Manscaped Review 2023: Trim Your Nuts Like A Boss

Looking for an in-depth and totally honest review of the Manscaped hair trimmer? You’ve come to the right place. I’ve spent some considerable time with the very latest Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 to help decide if it’s a genuinely worthwhile addition to your bathroom and a cut above the rest.

What is mascaping?

Manscaping is an official term that refers to the art of pruning and trimming all your body hair. However, it is more generally applied to the act of trimming the hair below your waist. We’d say it’s a pretty essential task. Not only does a full, untamed bush look unsightly, but it could also be a potential turn off for anyone lucky enough to see you in your full birthday suit.

So, keeping your body hair (and pubic hair especially) under control is something all men should take an active approach to. Naturally, however, taking sharp blades to such intimate areas is a nerve-wracking experience for some men, especially if they’ve never properly dabbled in body hair removal.

If this sounds like you, then be sure to check out our full guide to manscaping.

What is Manscaped?

This brings us on nicely to the Manscaped body hair trimmer. Taking the very definition of cutting body hair and using it as the brand name is a stroke of genius in my opinion. It clearly defines what the product has been made for and, in theory, should live up to that name by offering one of the best, most hassle-free experiences.

Manscaped is a men’s brand of various grooming products. Most notably, the company has a body hair trimmer called The Lawn Mower, alongside others such as The Weed Whacker nose and ear hair trimmer, The Plow face razor and The Crop Shaver groin razor.

The Lawn Mower is now in its fourth generation and is marketed as not only the best attack against groin hair but as a tool to use for all your body hair removal needs. It’s available to buy on its own or as part of various bundle sets, which can include other grooming products such as the Crop Reviver ball toner and Crop Preserver ball deodorant. I do like the use of humour in Manscaped’s marketing, but even I’ll admit a toner specifically developed for your balls sounds a little farfetched.

Is Manscaped good?

The Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 is a relatively small hair trimmer, finished in a Smart-looking matte black colour and one that can be used wirelessly. Some body hair groomers may only work when plugged into the mains, but the wireless functionality of the Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0, coupled with its small size, makes it easy to manoeuvre around those hard to reach, and delicate, places.

I’m someone who does like to regularly maintain hair length, and would most commonly use a safety razor in the shower. I’ve come away unscathed 99 percent of the time, and have always had reservations about taking an electric trimmer to my nether regions. Fast-moving teeth and delicate areas don’t mix, in my opinion.

I was also aware of some pretty negative reviews of the Manscaped trimmers, with many claiming they had cut themselves when attempting to manscape. Safe to say, I went in with some caution. Manscaped claims the Lawn Mower 4.0 is outfitted with SkinSafe technology on the ceramic blades, which provides “precision-engineered for maximum confidence while trimming below-the-waist.”

Does Manscaped work?

After charging the trimmer using the supplied charging base (you do need to have your own USB-A plug) which lets you know by way of three lights how charged your trimmer is, I set it to work. I decided against using the Lawn Mower 4.0 on my balls but felt confident using it everywhere else. Manscaped says you can use the trimmer on the boys if you want, but just make sure you keep the skin taut during the process.

The Lawn Mower 4.0 is waterproof, so you can use it in the shower if you wish. Adding water into the mix can help to keep the skin taut.

I immediately noticed just how quiet it is in use. This may not be an important factor for everyone, but being able to trim away without the potential of my housemates hearing loud buzzing coming from my bathroom, did put my mind at ease.

The Manscaped trimmer is also incredibly lightweight, so holding it for extended periods of time is no issue at all. I used it without any guard on at all (go hard or go home, right?) and found the blades sliced through the hair like a knife through butter. It was effortless and effective.

My only niggle is that it does, as should be expected, cut the hair incredibly short. At least, shorter than I would have normally liked. I’m not exactly a professional swimmer who needs to rid their body of all hair. I found, for my hair length at least, using the smaller of the two supplied plastic guards to not be effective; my hair was already too short for the guard to pick up.

A quick note on those plastic guards. Each can actually be set to two different lengths, depending on how you set them over the main ceramic blade.

However, when I’ve previously used the body groomer I already own, I’m able to cut to a short length using a guard and be happy with the results. That’s not to say I wasn’t happy with the result of using the Manscaped without a guard, it just resulted in incredibly short hair that I wasn’t used to. I was seriously impressed with how easy the experience was, though.

For the sake of public decency, I’m not going to be posting before and after pictures. You’ll just have to trust what I’m saying.

Can I use Manscaped on all body hair?

Yes, absolutely you can. While I’m not super hairy, I do possess a rather generous amount of body hair, which I like to maintain on a regular basis using a body groomer. Figuring this was a perfect opportunity to really put the Manscaped to the test, I attached one of the guards (the smaller one) and began to move the trimmer up and down my body.

Again, the cutting experience was smooth, easy, quick and effective. Any hair that was cut fell to the floor, which I was impressed with since my current body groomer would get hair caught up in the guard, requiring me to empty it on a regular basis. Manscaped has also fitted a small LED light near the blade to help with visibility. This LED light automatically comes on when you turn the unit on, but can be turned off by pressing and holding down on the power button for a few seconds.

Is Manscaped expensive?

Manscaped offers various bundles on top of being able to buy the Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 as a standalone unit. The company also offers a Peak Hygiene Plan, which is a subscription-based plan that sees you being sent a fresh blade to replace the one on your trimmer every 3 months, alongside a refill of one of the formulations, such as the Crop Reviver ball toner. This is charged at 24.99 every 3 months.

Lawn Mower 4.0 standalone unit: 149.99 or 139.99 with the Peak Hygiene PlanPerfect Package 4.0: Lawn Mower 4.0; Crop Preserver ball deodorant; Crop Reviver ball toner; Magic Mat shaving mats (to collect hair); The Shed travel bag and a pair of Manscaped boxer briefs – 169.99 or 159.99 with Peak Hygiene Plan.Performance Package 4.0: Lawn Mower 4.0; Weed Whacker ear nose hair trimmer; Crop Preserver ball deodorant; Crop Reviver ball toner; Magic Mat shaving mats (to collect hair); The Shed travel bag and a pair of Manscaped boxer briefs – 169.99 or 159.99 with Peak Hygiene Plan – 189.99 or 179.99 with Peak Hygiene Plan.

Can you use Manscaped on your face?

Yes, you can. It’s only really worthwhile using Manscaped on your face if you have a long beard, as the guards can be used to cut through the excess hair. I didn’t use it on my face personally, as I only rock a little bit of stubble and have a dedicated beard trimmer to take care of it.

Is Manscaped worth it?

Ultimately, yes I do think Manscaped is worth it if you take your manscaping habits seriously. The Lawn Mower 4.0 trimmer is a lightweight, premium looking device and does an excellent job at cutting through hair. As I mentioned earlier, I was a little apprehensive about using Manscaped for the first time, based purely on some negative reviews I’d seen.

However, after using it several times not just for hair ‘down there’ but for other body hair grooming too, I’m happy for it to replace my previous body groomer.
