What is a good electric alternative to a pneumatic right angle die grinder?
I don’t own an air compressor and prefer working with electric tools. I’ve been searching for an electric right angle die grinder to use with Roloc discs to sand down fiberglass, but I am not having much luck. The few electric angle grinders on the market are very expensive. than I’m willing to fork over. I am looking for something cheap, like 50 or under. I thought about using a basic corded drill with Roloc discs, but the RPMs on most drills are nowhere near high enough to do quick heavy sanding with.
What else can I use to efficiently sand down fiberglass other than air powered tools?
Cheapo angle grinder. no adjustable speed but I use this damn thing all the time. Also fits smaller tile saw blades that make quick work of thick fiberglass.
Look into a drywall scrugun. They run at 4000rpm and are variable speed. They are a little more than your budget though.

I dunno, can Dremels use 1/4″ accessories? I have a cheapo rotary tool that only accepts 1/8″ accessories.
I might look into the angle grinder idea. After doing more research, they make adapters for angle grinders that can allow 1/4″ accessories to attach to them.
Seriously there is nothing comparable to an air powered die grinder. save up and buy a compressor or rent one from a rental place to do the job you need to do.
Only 1500 rpm but plenty of torque, and just a little bigger than a roloc angle grinder. Could work.
Sorry for the late post on this thread but check out the Makita GV5010 disc sander. 4,500 RPM and with a little use you’ll figure out how the vary the speed. The 5″ size isn’t ideal if your in tight areas and it doesn’t have the finesse of a pneumatic, but it’s a great tool. I removed the plastic backer and use the Alpha hook and loop backer. Roloc products won’t work with this but you can pick up similar 5″ hook and loop discs.
I’m afraid with your budget of 50 would bring you as far as 10-15 sanding discs alone, raising it to a 100 will take you a long journey for a miracle than can happen. What you need is a grinder that has self braking once you let go for safety. I had good experience with a Roto-Zip which is bigger than a Dremel although it only has a constant speed. Even constant maintenance is needed because of the debris that gets sucked in through the brushes and bearings, it will break down. I also have a Hitachi angled polisher which you can use different sizes of discs and is variable speed, you probably get lucky finding those in a pawnshop for cheap. Raise your budget so you’d have more room to make your search happen.
