Table Saw Combo #1 Part Number: TS COMBO#1 M-TS COMBO#1 more info

This is a perfect all-around system for smaller shops. The 32″ or 810mm capacity TS-LS rip fence system is matched with a complete package of the routing accessories included with LS Router Table Systems. The 28″ x 21″ left-side router table (32″ x 21″ on XL version) allows you to work from the end of the router table for better access around the router and allows great capacity between the fence and router bit.

The left-side router table is also more than twice the size of the cast iron extension wing it replaces for more support when cross cutting long boards or ripping plywood.

Because the router table replaces the saw’s original left-side extension wing, TS Combo #1 is not compatible with saws that have a motor housing protruding from the left side of the saw due to potential interference between the motor housing and the router itself.

INCRA Table Saw Combo #1-XL Part Number: TS COMBO #1-XL, M-TS COMBO #1-XL

Includes everthing described in The TS Combo #1 but Substitutes a longer Fence and Basemount components along with the larger TSRT3221L 32″ x 21″ TS Router Table. (Fits castings 30″-31″ deep)

Table Saw Combo #2 Part Number: TS COMBO#2 M-TS COMBO#2 more info

In TS Combo #2, the 32″ or 810mm capacity TS-LS rip fence system is matched with a complete package of the same routing equipment included with our LS Router Table Systems. The 28″ x 32″ right-side router table (32″ x 32″ on the XL version) neatly fills the space between the rails, and the router location allows setting up for routing work without moving the fence system’s base assembly on the rails, though routing capacity is somewhat limited in that arrangement. Support legs are highly recommended.

Because the router table replaces the saw’s original right-side extension wing, TS Combo #2 is not compatible with saws that have a motor housing protruding from the right side of the saw due to potential interference between the motor housing and the router itself.

Making a Table Saw Extension and Cross Cut Sled

My table saw is the centerpiece of my workshop. But for being king of the castle, it doesn’t offer a lot of storage for all of the extras that I regularly use. I decided to make a storage cabinet for a new cross cut sled that also has an extension wing for cutting larger panels.

Make a Cross Cut Sled

Many people have asked me about the cross cut sled that I use in the videos. I made it long time ago and never showed it was done. If you aren’t familiar, a cross cut sled is a squared jig that wood can ride on that will result in a perfectly 90 degree cut on the table saw. I used a lot of laminated plywood pieces.holed together to make a front and back fence. These fences were attached to a plywood bottom panel. To ensure that it consistently runs straight along the saw blade, you attach thin strips of wood to the underside that ride in the table saw’s miter slots.

That is basically it, a sled made of flat wood that runs in the miter slots, except that it isn’t perfectly straight yet. To square up the back fence for consistent cuts, you use the “5-cut method.” My cross cut sled was as close as I cared to get it, but be as exact as you like. Once the sled was square, I added some paste wax to the underside so it slid smoothly across the saw.

Build a Storage Cabinet

The idea behind this cabinet is that it would be a place to store the cross cut sled as well as other table saw items; extra blade, throat plates, my dado stack, and even my adjustable miter gage. There is room under the existing table saw extension to the right of the saw, but I thought I could use this cabinet to extend the saw’s surface to the left as well.

I build a simple box on top of a wider platform with some drawer slides mounted on one side. The extra width at the bottom would allow for some adjustable feet underneath the cabinet without poking through the interior space. I also added some threaded inserts to the spot where the cabinet touched the table saw. The cast iron wing on my saw had some extra holes on that side so I could run a bolt through the saw and into the new extension cabinet. Using the adjustable feet, I made the top of the cabinet flush with the top of the saw and bolted them together.

Insert a Sliding Storage Shelf

Besides having room for the cross cut sled, I added a few drawer slide to the interior space to accept a sliding storage panel. This shelf would hold all of the other things I use on the table saw. Now, you could totally make some custom holders for blades or other items, but I’m super simple and just used some screws. I made a simple handle out of a scrap 2×4 and the interior storage space was finished!

Attach a Flip-Up Extension

Having the cabinet’s extra surface space is nice, but it isn’t quite big enough. I struggle with wrangling a full sheet of plywood on my table saw when ripping pieces. By adding a flip-up extension wing, I can now rip pieces off of a full sheet without it awkwardly tipping off the side fo the saw. The brackets I used to lift up the wing are rated for 300 lbs each, so I’m totally not worried about it collapsing under the weight of a semi-supported sheet of plywood.

It is a Seamless Addition to the Shop

I really love this new shop fixture. It solved a few problems I had with organization and saw capacity. Building a new, more accurate cross cut sled was an added bonus that rounded out the project. This cabinet can work for any saw you may have. If you use a contractor saw that folds up, the cabinet can be bolted to the side of it as well. If there aren’t any hole in the end of the saw wing, you could just clamp it together from underneath. Table Saw Extension

This is a fairly simple to build extension for a table saw to help when cutting large sheets of wood, or to add a little extra surface area for small projects. I made mine out of aluminum to cut down on weight, and because I wanted to challenge myself to try something I’ve never really worked with before.

The store didn’t have any extension tables or rollers on hand, and I didn’t feel like going through the trouble of ordering one and waiting for it arrive; So I just bought some aluminum and went to work. No plans, no written measurements, just a rough mental image and a few basic tools.

If anyone builds this I’d love to see your version!

Step 1: Supplies

For my saw I got: two 1″ square tubes, one 3/4″ tube, and two 3/4″ angled pieces. All 3′ lengths. If I ever upgrade this project I’d go with 3/4″ tube instead of the angles; they’re sturdy enough to get the job done, but they might buckle under heavier loads. You’ll also need a few bolts about an inch and a half long.

For tools you’ll need: a ruler/tape measure, a ratchet, a wrench, a drill and/or drill press, some drill bits, a hole saw, a hacksaw, a file, and a micrometer/caliper is handy.

Step 2: Mark, Cut, and Drill

First decide how you want the finished product to look, and work from there. On my angles, I decided to have the open edge facing out to ease in attaching it to my table saw. These we marked on the center of the inside width, which happened to be just the right spacing for me to fit the ratchet socket into to tighten the bolt.

On the 1″ pieces, I drilled a 3/4″ hole with my hole saw and used the pilot bit in the saw to drill the hole in the bottom of the stock; the 3/4″ hole allows me to fit a ratchet in to tighten the bolts.

The 3/4″ stock was cut in half, it was used as a spacer as the thickness of my table saw from bolting point to surface was 1 3/4″.

Be sure to take your file and smooth down all of the edges and get the burrs off from drilling, you don’t want to cut yourself on a sharp edge!

Step 3: Assembly

The bolts I had laying around were far too short, but luckily I had some 1/4″ ready rod and some nuts to fit it. So I hacked it into 1 1/2″ lengths, filed it clean, and welded some nuts to one end of each. Some scrap leather in the vice keeps the threads nice and safe while providing a very strong grip on the piece while cutting.

That done, assembly is quick and straight forward, just insert a bolt into the holes of the pieces.

Step 4: Affix to Table Saw

If only it was that easy for me. My particular brand of table saw uses some strange thread count I didn’t have a bolt or thread tap/die, so I tapped it out to accept the shorter 1/4″ bolts I had on hand. Though when I put one it, it hit bottom faster than I though and sheered off like a piece of butter with hardly any pressure, and I spent the better part of two hours taking the table saw apart and drilling out/removing the sheered bolt. Then I cut some much mush shorter bolts and and only tightened them to a little more than finger tight, and they work great!

Step 5: Finished

Enjoy having a helping hand when making short cuts in wide boards, having extra spots to clamp things to, and a place to rest your accessories!

This same setup can be made to work with all sides of the saw if you need some extra support.

Step 6: Extras

Ensure you do this project outside in near freezing conditions to ensure extra motivation to get it done quickly! And have a cozy fire going when the cold really starts to get to you.
